The Casa do Alto story

Casa do Alto is a particularly large farmhouse compared to most of its counterparts in the Minho region, as the main farm was very large, stretching from Adaúfe to Sete Fontes. It is no longer a farmhouse, but there is an orchard with fruit trees and a vegetable garden. Our aim is to create a relaxed and peaceful environment both inside and outside the building.

Cereals and many other crops were stored in the house and the ground floor apartment used to be the stable area for animals, having recently been restored. However, the original design has been preserved and the original stone walls are visible. One of the interior rooms has been converted into a kitchen/bar area and is full of souvenirs (mainly hats!) from all over the world. The collection was essentially built by the owners (Peggy and Mario), but many friends also contributed to this unique space. There are also two antique settles to sit and perhaps taste the region's wines.

If you decide to rent the top floor apartment you can relax in the privacy of the suites or take a look at the library and relax in the main living/dining room. You can also enjoy a hydromassage in the excellent hot tub in the main bathroom on the floor. In the living/dining room you can comfortably watch international and national TV, including applications such as Netflix, Stremio, YouTube and much more. The upper balcony is the perfect place to watch the sunset and enjoy the views of the surrounding property and the Cávado River Valley.

The old kitchen on the middle floor was renovated and converted into a large living/dining room. The original fireplace, including the old stone log oven, is still on site and is often used to roast goat, lamb and fish in the old fashioned way.

Outside, you can relax in the surrounding gardens or in the shade of old trees next to the stone table or in the sun by the swimming pool located near the orchard. At the entrance to the farm, there is a pine forest and lime trees where you can relax among the fragrant trees in this area, taking a nap in one of the available hammocks.
